In the month of August, FRANK is honored to exhibit the African American Quilt Circle (AAQC) in the Michael & Laura Brader-Araje Community Outreach Gallery. On August 12th, artist members of the AAQC gathered to share their love of quilting and the fiber arts as well as their commitment to preserving the tradition of quilting in the black community.

Some individual members of AAQC have received local, national, and international recognition for their creativity and skills including winning ribbons and prizes from quilt competitions, solo artist exhibits, inclusions in quilt books, participations in juried shows, and prestigious selections for historical and traveling exhibits.  AAQC also has members that teach and lecture locally and nationally

Founded in Durham in 1998 by four black women who were united in the love for quilting, the AAQC now reaches far past our local area with members from the Eastern US and as far away as Panama. The AAQC is an active and thriving member of the community and involved in many outreach programs including donating quilts to the community and prematurely-born babies at UNC Hospitals as well as cultural festivals throughout the region.
